Model United Nations replicated at Kanjirowa

Kanjirowa National Secondary School replicated a Model United Nations General Assembly. As in previous years, in this academic simulation of the United Nations, students from Grade VIII to X outstandingly performed their roles as the delegates of the UN member states and discussed on various current international affairs that affect our globe. The program was accompanied by Mr. Tristram Perry, Public Affairs Officer of US Embassy in Nepal as a chief guest and Mr. Ram Babu Shah, National Information Officer of UN office in Nepal as a guest. The participants were divided into six different agencies and committees: UNHCR,WHO, UNESCO, ECOSOC and the committees were FIRST COMMITTEE and SECOND COMMITTEE. The issues were protecting rights of indigenous population, use of traditional medicines, impact of climate change in world heritage sites, involvement of youths and women in government, combating terrorism and sustainable tourism for development. Each representative presented a ‘Draft Resolution’ which was followed by a lot of contentions as representatives from various member states took positions for and against the draft resolutions. The chief guest Mr. Tristram Perry in his very motivating and inspiring address reflected on his experience of being a delegate at Model United Nation at his schooling years and asserted that Model United Nations “Is a fantastic way to learn language, research, debating, public speaking and various skills related to diplomacy and apply them which traditional classroom will not allow to do so”. Hence, he applauded Kanjirowa’s effort in making students globally capable and competent. The special guest Mr. Ram Babu Shah applauded students’ performance and opined “the students conceptualize the provision and working procedures of the General Assembly of the United Nations and students performance has reached in new horizon in a global level in terms of language delivery, subject matter, research and debating skills.” He praised Kanjirowa’s holistic approach in education and said “UN Office in Nepal would collaborate with Kanjirowa in various program in recent future.” Executive Director Mr. Mahendra Khanal highlighted KNS MUN as an opportunity of experimental learning about the procedures and functions of the UN General Assembly.
